There was silver-edged news elsewhere for Google. Buoyed by plenty of offers, incentives and discounts ahead of the main Christmas shopping period it’s perhaps not surprising to learn that the Chromecast remained a big xmas seller, albeit placing second to Amazon’s $39 ‘Fire TV Stick’.
Under federal law, it is illegal to use public office for private gain, as well as “for the endorsement of any product, service, or enterprise” and for the “private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity”.
You may remember that Amazon keeps track of which products people end up buying after searching for a given keyword. They then use that data to help them decide which products are most relevant to the original search term.
While Google hasn’t yet opened up product distribution outside the U.S., earlier this week, Amazon indicated that it would ship the device to select international destinations. Shoppers in Europe, Asia and Australia reported success in ordering the device. But now, Amazon’s Chromecast product listing reads: “Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S. and to APO/FPO addresses.”
Amazon does not provide a seller directory for every category in every country in which they have a marketplace. There’s quite a lot of variation but Amazon.com specifically does not list sellers of books, DVDs/Blu-rays and CDs. (As an aside, even when there are seller directories some of the top sellers are missing.)
Note that not all sellers use unified accounts, and those who don’t aren’t easy to identify as cross-border merchants. Seller “dodax” is a good example of that, appearing in the top 10 for the UK, France and Italy – but using separate accounts on each.

Midyear sales figures for the video game industry show two things — the staying power of hot holiday sellers and which spring releases have found a loyal audience. While the positions shift (and many titles fall off the charts) once the holiday months arrive, they’re a good barometer of publisher health.
ASUS ZenBook is lighter, slimmer and faster than other notebooks in its class to give you the unmatched power and all-day portability you need to conquer your day. And when other glossy notebooks show more glare than what’s actually on the screen, ASUS ZenBook always shines through even the sunniest days thanks to the 13-inch matte anti-glare wide-angle IPS display. Featuring the new Intel Core M processor, do more with faster speeds and enhanced efficiency that automatically adjusts performance to what you’re doing. OK we have now updated all the data – global, Europe and all the countries. I think we have picked up a lot of the missing sellers and additional marketplaces for sellers with unified European accounts.
