With the 2017 holiday shopping season now firmly behind us, Amazon has a lot to smile about. Earlier today, the online retailing giant issued a press release noting that the 2017 holiday shopping season was its biggest yet. In addition to a record number of online orders, Amazon relays that it saw significant gains to its Prime membership, noting that it saw more than 4 million new Prime subscribers in one week alone.

It used to be a real mark of distinction to hit the best-seller lists–because there were fewer lists and fewer authors (and before ebooks, pricing across books was pretty universal as well). The New York Times list has been the most prestigious, published in one form or another since 1931. By 1942, a national list made its debut, compiled according to “reports from leading booksellers in 22 cities.” By the mid-2000s, over 4,000 bookstores were polled each week to determine who deserved to be on the list. The Wall Street Journal list, which has been around since 2009, is based on Nielsen Bookscan and tends to focus on a smaller number of categories. The USA Today list is also a prestigious but more of a catch-all list.
As you can see, this section of Amazon’s website is almost a department unto itself. Promotions are given their own unique links and listing pages. The part I’d like to draw your attention to is the Coupons link, highlighted in the blue box above. This page takes you to a list of Amazon’s most popular Vendor Powered Coupons (VPC) in a variety of categories. See the page for yourself below:
If the answer to #2 is NO, you may still be able to work out a special deal with the manufacturer if you ask for it. However, if you don’t think it’s worth it, look around for other products in the same niche… Chances are, there’s money to be made on a slightly lower ranked product.
“To me this is the perfect entry level device. If you like the concept and are disciplined, then you can upgrade to another device. if you are trying to get a snapshot of what you are doing on a daily basis and how you can make some life and fitness improvements, this device is a perfect way in.” – Kristopher Baker, Amazon reviewer
“Amazon has done a great job updating the Echo and adding features to it frequently. Since my purchase, they’ve added traffic reports, sports scores, Pandora, IFTT, voice control over the smart lights and appliances in your home, iTunes support, Spotify, and new fun features like rolling dice, and Simon says.” – Heart Dad, Amazon reviewer
Hi Hutch, thanks for your comment. Do you have a link to a specific article which shows this? I agree that free vs paid has a massive bearing on movers/shakers, top 100 etc, but for the sales rank, the vast majority of data I’ve seen and experienced supports that the weighting between free and paid for this specific list is pretty equal- would love to see some quality evidence for the contraty though, and if I’m wrong, will be happy to change the article…
Oh, and then there are the ones who claim to have U.S. warehouses and even state they send from such and such a state…many of these are located overseas and your purchase takes up to three months to get.

This is one of the most value-packed 2-in-1 laptops we’ve seen in a while, an ideal entry point to casual users wanting to try out the world of these higher function tablet/laptop hybrids. Specs include 4GB of RAM, 128GB of solid-state storage, a 10.1-inch HD (1,280 x 800) screen, Windows 10 and a quad-core Intel Atom processor.
Easy – invest in a tool that automatically reprices your products so that you always stay on top of the Buy Box. This is almost a requirement when you have lots of products for sale; there’s just no way to stay on top of pricing for all of them.
Last week, I put up a fake book on Amazon. I took a photo of my foot, uploaded to Amazon, and in a matter of hours, had achieved “No. 1 Best Seller” status, complete with the orange banner and everything.
Research the manufacturer to figure out how you can start reselling the product for yourself. Find out how much it will cost wholesale, and calculate what it will cost you to ship. Is there room between that number and $0.01 less than the current Buy Box-winning price for you to make a profit?
You don’t have to go far down the list to find merchants who have really embraced selling on multiple marketplaces across Europe. But three of the highest-placed cross-border merchants are not European companies – JEDirect are from the US, while Anker (with two European accounts) and Sunvalley are both Hong Kong-based companies.
The Asus ZenBook UX310, the long awaited follow-up to the ZenBook UX305, sports a 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake processor and an all-aluminum frame, truly a candidate for the MacBook Air’s throne. That’s thanks in no small part to the ZenBook UX310 offering all the latest ports, including USB-C, and the option of a beautiful QHD+ (3,200 x 1,800) display, complete with 178 degrees of rotation and a serious case of the anti-glare.
“1984” reached #1 on Amazon’s list earlier in the week after commentators compared Kellyanne Conway’s invocation of “alternative facts” to Orwell’s idea of “newspeak.” The book has held onto the top spot for three days. It is also temporarily out of stock, according to Amazon, with new copies expected to be available in early February.
Their warehouse packers at the warehouses some sellers I guess send their product into so the seller does not have to ship the product themselves will throw product into a big box with no padding to take up the extra room (I had an MP3 player come in a box that was about 14″ x 20″x 12 inches high with no padding what so ever, it was so damaged by flouncing around in a huge box that it look like it had been thrown against a wall many times). Again, try sending it back for a refund.
Currently, the holder of the highest-selling nonfiction release is Hillary Clinton’s “What Happened,” which sold 300,000 copies in its first week, according to publisher Simon & Schuster, as reported by Fortune.
The popular non-tech items to make it to the top 10 are books. Australian author Scott Pape’s The Barefoot Investor comes in at number seven and Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients – Quick & Easy Food ranks as the eighth best-selling product in Australia.
The Dell XPS 13 is, bar none, the best laptop you can buy today. It features a revolutionary design that’s astonishingly thin and light. Fitting a 13.3-inch screen into such a small frame means Dell has created a nearly borderless Infinity display. It’s a powerful and long lasting machine even by today’s Ultrabook standards. The XPS 13 comes outfitted with Intel’s Kaby Lake processors plus lighting, quick storage and memory, all while coming in at a very affordable starting price. For these reasons, it easily takes the top slot as the best Ultrabook and the best overall laptop.
Quick Note: For some reason, removing the ?url=search-alias returns a different set of search results… Not sure why, but either way make sure you keep that in if you want to make it look like someone searched for that keyword from Amazon.
The Echo Dot was the top-selling device across Amazon Books’ 13 stores; the Kindle Paperwhite was the best-selling Kindle; the TP-Link Smart Plug was the best-selling accessory; and WowWee Fingerlings were the top selling toy.
Note that not all sellers use unified accounts, and those who don’t aren’t easy to identify as cross-border merchants. Seller “dodax” is a good example of that, appearing in the top 10 for the UK, France and Italy – but using separate accounts on each.
