Hi Hutch, thanks for your comment. Do you have a link to a specific article which shows this? I agree that free vs paid has a massive bearing on movers/shakers, top 100 etc, but for the sales rank, the vast majority of data I’ve seen and experienced supports that the weighting between free and paid for this specific list is pretty equal- would love to see some quality evidence for the contraty though, and if I’m wrong, will be happy to change the article…
Here’s what happened in the book industry over the last few years: As Amazon has become the big dog in the book world, the “Amazon Bestseller” status has come to be synonymous with being an actual bestseller. This is not true, and I can prove it.
Their new book features more than 100 chef-developed recipes, like Chimichurri Beef Kabobs and Halibut with Citrus Ginger Glaze, designed to build your confidence in the kitchen and inspire your taste buds.

The two-month-old Chromecast currently tops the charts for every Amazon subcategory it’s listed in, including digital media devices, streaming media players and televisions and video. The next most popular TV streaming devices in the general electronics rankings are the Apple TV (at #7) and the Roku 3 (at #8).
My preference of all of the computers in this article is the MacBook Air. I am generally a PC guy, and am writing this review on a Windws 7 PC. But having used the MacBook Air that has been firmly planted near the top of Amazon’s best-seller list for several months, I can see why it is so popular. It just feels like a great computer, and I really don’t have anything bad to say about it. If you are not severely attached to Windows, it is definitely something you should consider checking out.
Chromecast’s sales success does suggest that mainstream users aren’t too concerned about the lack of streaming options—to date, only two non-Google services, Netflix and Hulu, work directly with Chromecast—or the wait for more apps to emerge. At least not yet.
It would be interesting to see Amazon’s own accounts to see how they rank against the rest of us… even if you list them with an asterisk… would they take the top four spots or is there a top seller 3rd party that does better than the host?
The listings shown to your right are a great example. Every seller on the first page has a 90% rating or above. However, you can see that a seller with a 90% rating ranks higher than a 100% rating. It seems that as long as you hit 90% positive feedback, anything extra won’t have a huge impact on the Buy Box.
Personally, I believe convertibles are the future of mobile computing since they give you virtually all of the benefits of a full-blown laptop plus the convenience of a tablet. My next Windows laptop will most likely be one of these awesome machines!
Yes, it’s obvious! Since AmazonBasics is the own brand of Amazon, it continues to be at the top of the list. Recently, Amazon has been launching several brands. But, note that they weren’t as successful as AmazonBasics. Nevertheless, the launching brands are found to be the main focus of Amazon now given that they have all the data needed to predict which products to develop.
Amazon is one of the biggest online market places in the world. And thanks to reviews and user feedback, it’s also one of the most helpful since shoppers can see what other people have purchased and loved on the site.
(Publisher: Activision Blizzard) — “Infinite Warfare” was a troubled “Call of Duty” title from the moment it made its debut, with fans blasting the debut trailer for deviating too far from the franchise’s roots. That reaction has seemingly impacted catalog sales. Typically, the previous year’s “COD” game is at or near the top of the midyear sales list. This year it’s near the bottom. Activision hopes this year’s “Call of Duty: WWII” gets a warmer reaction.
Amazon has websites in three other countries – Australia, Brazil and the Netherlands. These sites only sell Kindle readers, Fire tablets and related digital downloads. They don’t have third-party marketplaces and don’t appear in the data here.
But it’s begun to feel a bit like a losing battle. Because those authors are everywhere these days. The title of my fake book was “Putting My Foot Down” for a reason: I’ve become utterly exhausted with phony “authors” and the scam artists and charlatans who conspire with these folks–the cottage industry that has built up around them, selling courses, instructions and hacks. A quick Google search returns dozens of “bestselling books,” courses, packages, schools, secrets, summits, and webinars teaching you how to become a “bestselling author”. Hell, this guy even promises to show you how to be a bestselling author “Even if You Have No Book Ideas, Writing Skills, or Any Clue Where To Start” in a “5 Phase Formula.”
As the Amazon Bestsellers Rank is relative to other products in a category, an increase in sales alone isn’t enough to increase rankings. To increase the Bestsellers Rank, your product must sell more units than other products in your category. This means that if there’s a sudden influx in overall sales in Juicing Machines, and everyone in that category starts to sell more products, the sellers may not see jumps in their Bestsellers Rank, as they might have hoped.
