As of this afternoon, Amazon says that its “Techies” category on the site was one of the most shopped, along with “Home Chefs” and “For the Home.” In the Techies section, Amazon is heavily promoting its own hardware — including Echo devices, Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers — as well as bundles like the Echo Dot/Philips Hue Starter Kit, for example, among others.
In order to keep your ASIN piggybacking above the table, make sure that you’re shipping the exact same product – with the same brand, SKU and manufacturing code – as the listing you’re trying to piggyback.
Because of the high bar, the term “bestselling author” was a term with some meaning. It was seen as something that was earned through a lot of hard work. But today, that designation has changed—for the worse. It’s like when you see a food described as “natural.” The FDA doesn’t actually regulate that term, so it’s basically meaningless.

For example, we sell in multiple product categories and find that we receive proportionally more feedback in some categories. The dollar amount of the transaction also has a correlation to likelihood of feedback. Additionally, some items lend themselves to buying multiples while others do not. If a customer buys 5 units in one transaction, that will still lead to a maximum of one feedback.
The opposite holds true, too, where your competitors can suddenly out-rank you in the Amazon best sellers rank. This usually happens if you’ve been selling at roughly the same rate each day, and one of them enjoys a considerable (and relative) spike on one day.
There were other interesting nuggets of information in the Amazon press release, including the list of top-selling tablets. While it’s no surprise that Amazon’s own tablets made the top three list given heavy promotions, it is interesting that the Kindle Fire 7 bested the Kindle Fire 6 and the Kindle Fire HDX 7. Note that the top three are all smaller tablets. Buyers liked the 7-inch size in particular.
That leaves 54% doing some level of trade across Amazon’s European marketplaces using a unified account. But are they doing it successfully? Well, 71% of the cross-border traders gained 10% or more of their feedback from countries outside their biggest marketplace (up from 59% last year). And 33% got more than half of their feedback away from their main market, almost double the figure of 18% last year. So while there aren’t many more sellers selling internationally across Europe, those who are have become even more active over the last year.
Amazon won’t announce the best-selling product of 2017 until early next year, but for now investors can take note that the past two years Amazon’s products outsold everything else, and this year its electronics are easily topping the list again. That’s a strong signal of Amazon’s ability to continually keep customers tied to its ecosystem.

Conny, I’m not sure, to be honest. Perhaps something to do with angorythm changes? Or simply your relation to others in your category, which can naturally change without your sales changing at all… so, if the sales in 50% of your category are fluctuating (which they are), this will naturally change your relative rank, even if your sales stay the same (even at 0)… In all, though, it’s impossible to tell for sure. Please let me know if you find out anything else!

The bigger picture is that Amazon uses its products as a catalyst for selling more items on its website, and for hooking users into its ecosystem.
