Dear Rob thanks for the excellent post. I am a new author in Kindle and have published a preschool book “MY FIRST PRETTY BOOK OF ANIMALS: a gift for little ones”. My free rank was #1 but my paid rank is #280,230. Please tell me why such a difference has happened. Secondly I want to know how did you determine the figures of sales and amazon rank. Your advice will be really grateful.

I was wondering if there was any archive that you knew about wherein Amazon sales rank records are publicly stored. It would be quite the handy resource to look up how long a book stayed at certain ranks in order to make general inferences about sales, but my google-fu came up weak.
This holiday season, Whole Foods Market sold over 500,000 pounds of sweet treats at the cookie bars featured in stores across the U.S. – that’s enough to feed Santa more than 6 million cookies throughout his trip around the world on Christmas Eve.
We have important rules at my company about the projects we take on. We don’t work with authors whose books we wouldn’t read ourselves, and we don’t guarantee best-seller status. We say no to more work than we say yes to, but these principles help us avoid the gimmicky, one-hit-wonders who aren’t looking to write great books but instead are looking to trick people into thinking they have.
If you’re an Individual Seller with a Pro Merchant account, a Professional Seller or a Vendor, then you can use Amazon’s built-in promotion tools. The savviest of shoppers always make use of Amazon’s daily deals.
In the span of one day, Michael Wolff’s bombshell book about President Donald Trump and his administration, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, moved 48,448 positions up on Amazon’s best-seller list to reach the no. 1 spot. As of 10:00 a.m. EST on Thursday, it has retained its status. (The book is still in pre-order stages; it will be released on Jan. 9.)

Amazon is the largest book retailer in the world. They carry over 33 MILLION titles and ship them pretty much anywhere in the world. At the same time Amazon also allows authors to publish titles directly onto the platform, without the approval of traditional publishers, editors, or, as my foot book proves, really any barriers at all. In 2014, a new book was added to Amazon every five minutes.
It’s worth noting, too, that Prime Day 2017 technically started early this year — at 9 PM ET on Monday night. Plus, the sales event has expanded to 13 countries worldwide this year, up from 10 in 2016, which also translates to increased sales. While the U.K. and Germany were both in the Prime Day lineup last year, the Echo had yet to expand to those markets (it came only in September 2016): that too will have translated to a bump.
With 2019 now officially here, it’s time to take a look back at last year to see what was and wasn’t so good. The folks over at Amazon have done just that, compiling lists of what sold best on their site throughout the year, and in the video game department, you’ll see a lot of familiar faces.
My personal preference of all of the computers in this article is the MacBook Air. I am generally a PC guy, and am writing this review on a Windws 7 PC. But having used the MacBook Air that has been firmly planted near the top of Amazon’s best-seller list for several months, I can see why it is so popular. It just feels like a great computer, and I really don’t have anything bad to say about it. If you are not severely attached to Windows, it is definitely something you should consider checking out.
Amazon is the widely acknowledged leader of online sales. Its lead is based to a large extent on the huge audience that goes to its site; the popularity of its Prime program, which offers both free shipping and a huge video on demand streaming video content library; its discounts; and its ability to launch and successfully promote its own consumers electronics products, the most recent of which are Fire Stick TV, Echo Dot and several devices powered by its Alexa “intelligent personal assistant.”
To show you what’s going on behind the scenes when you use Amazon, let’s start by looking at the URL for a search term you might want to rank a product for. When I search for “stove top espresso makers” from Amazon’s home page, here’s the URL that we get, shown in the image below:
Last week Facebook IPO rumors swirled about the Internet. Few in the tech world were able to focus on anything else. Facebook’s estimated $75-$100 billion IPO had tech-meisters and analysts drooling. Finally, the world’s largest social network decided to put a price on everyones’ personal data.
Personally, I believe convertibles are the future of mobile computing since give you virtually all of the benefits of a full-blown laptop plus the convenience of a tablet. My next Windows laptop will most likely be one of these awesome machines!
Amazon has websites in three other countries – Australia, Brazil and the Netherlands. These sites only sell Kindle readers, Fire tablets and related digital downloads. They don’t have third-party marketplaces and don’t appear in the data here.
