“I still absolutely LOVE my Kindle Keyboard and use it almost every day. I have read dozens of books on it. I like the newer models, they have some neat features, but the experience of reading a book on them is no better or worse than on my Kindle Keyboard.” – Ron Cronovich, Amazon reviewer
With the 2017 holiday shopping season now firmly behind us, Amazon has a lot to smile about. Earlier today, the online retailing giant issued a press release noting that the 2017 holiday shopping season was its biggest yet. In addition to a record number of online orders, Amazon relays that it saw significant gains to its Prime membership, noting that it saw more than 4 million new Prime subscribers in one week alone.
Google might want to enjoy Chromecast’s sales leadership while it lasts. In the future, would-be customers could get put off if the wait for more compatible apps and streaming sources drags on. Before long, Chromecast may also have a new challenger: Amazon’s rumored streaming gadget. Possibly dubbed the Firetube, the device will reportedly launch in time for the holiday season.
Personally, I believe convertibles are the future of mobile computing since they give you virtually all of the benefits of a full-blown laptop plus the convenience of a tablet. My next Windows laptop will most likely be one of these awesome machines!
As you can tell from the list above, the best selling games were a bit dominated by Nintendo, but a couple of PlayStation hits did crack into the top 5, as Horizon Zero Dawn and the ever popular Call of Duty: WWII sold well enough to give itself a spot on the best sellers of 2017. See, on Monday, July 2, Andrew and I were taking refuge from the epic heat wave at his parents’ Chesapeake Bay house, drinking our makeshift version of “spa” water with chunks of watermelon and mint around the kitchen table. My debut novel Semi-Charmed Life was hitting shelves the next day and, while the rest of the family was idly chatting, I was obsessively Googling myself and refreshing Goodreads on my BlackBerry. Midyear sales figures for the video game industry show two things — the staying power hot holiday sellers and which spring releases have found a loyal audience. While the positions shift (and many titles fall off the charts) once the holiday months arrive, they’re a good barometer of publisher health.
Amazon keeps a running tab of the best-selling items on its website. It’s a pretty comprehensive list with everything from video games to books to clothing. For example, the best-selling toys right now are rocket copters that you can fling into the air and the best-selling book is Hillbilly Elegy. The list gets updated each hour, so the items change frequently. But one list that rarely changes is the top-selling devices in the electronics section.
We can’t stress enough to avoid making the mistake so many buyers have of placing too much importance on just the best sellers rank. It’s tempting to get caught up in the heady rush of seeing items fly off the shelves and your products have a small rank number, but there’s so much more involved than that.
Free Downloaded ebooks do NOT count equally as a paid sale. They may have a loooong time ago when the Kindle Slect program first started but for at least the last year or longer even a free giveaway downloaded only counts for about one tenth of a paid sale in overall/sub-category rankings.
Currently, according to Amazon’s own best sellers section on its site, the Echo Dot in black is now the top-selling electronics device in the U.S., followed by the Echo Dot in white and then the white Echo. Various Fire tablets, the Kindle Paperwhite and the Fire TV Stick with remote round out the top 10.
