Hutch, thanks for your reply, and thanks for the email you sent me! I’ve took another look at all of this, and want to thank you for pointing this out. I’m getting that section of the article clarified now, so it’s clearer that free and paid have separate besterller ranks, however the rankings seem to be calculated in the same way (or very similar).
(NOTE – While lowering the price is certainly a good strategy to rank higher, it is not always a good long-term business strategy. You do NOT want to compete on price alone, as this will only start a price war/race to the bottom)
“If you don’t need extra connections like audio and Ethernet, and don’t plan on using voice search (the stick remote lacks it, but I never used it anyways, as it only searches Prime) and don’t plan on heavy gaming, then absolutely get the stick, it’s been a solid experience.” – Darren Levine, Amazon reviewer
Great article! My book, “The Spider and the Wasp” (http://www.amazon.com/The-Spider-Wasp-Trauma-Survivor/dp/0991438310), will get down to about 2,600,000. I sell one and it jumps to about 450,000, and then drops back down to 2,600,000 over the course of a week. Last night it jumped to 225,000… so maybe I sold two in a day? Selling books is a tough thing to do. Wanting somebody to buy my book is like asking them to pay me for ten hours of their valuable time. I’m glad I didn’t go into it with any pre-conceived notions of success.
Another benefit on these top selling lists is that you can identify the top selling brands. This is helpful for SEO research as well as creating pages/posts via auto-blog where you enter keywords into the software/app/plug-in.
Amazon’s best-selling list compiles a real-time selection of shoppers’ top products in each category, which are updated hourly. That means the products that are on this list won’t always be their best-sellers, but they were at one point!
“The modem (as are all modems) was extremely easy to install. Plug in, call ISP and you are good. The speeds are fantastically fast and this modem was well worth the price.” – SmurfsRiot, Amazon reviewer
When it comes to ranking highly on the Amazon Bestsellers lists, as the ranks are based hourly (or daily if the above information is correct), then a quick spike in sales due to a successful marketing campaign, followed by a lull in sales a couple of days later will only serve to see the product’s rankings quickly plummet. It’s far better to space out a product launch over a period of week, so Amazon can collect consistent historical data to make predictions on future sales. This will thereby make it easier for you to break into higher spots on the ranking table in future.
While it isn’t clear exactly how many copies of a book must be sold to break into a slot on the list, a 2013 study of Amazon’s best-sellers list for a two-week period by Publishers Weekly found that “a title in Amazon’s top five averages 1,094 print sold across all channels, including other retailers, on a typical day.”
The best-selling office products in the U.S. were Elmer’s Liquid School Glue (1 Gallon) – Great For Making Slime, Georgia-Pacific Spectrum Standard 92 Multipurpose Paper (8.5 x 11 Inches) and Paper Mate Flair Felt Tip Pens (Assorted Colors, 12-Count).
Pro-democracy activists Raphael Wong and Joshua Wong arrive at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre after they were jailed on protest related charges following their sentencing at the High Court in Hong Kong.
Since customer reviews obviously affect sales, I guess that my question has to do with Sales Rank, so here it is: if a review is posted on my sales page in one Amazon store (e.g. UK or, say, Italy) will it automatically appear on all other Amazon sales pages for book, including Amazon.com?
I am a Part of one of the top 6 Amazon companies in the world. We are selling in com, de, fr and uk and our feedback rates are: com 1 out of 7, uk 1 out of 5.5, fr 1 out of 6.5 and de 1 out of 11. maybe that helps to interpret the feedbacks better 🙂
In December 2013 Theresa Regan posted the following figures on her blog representing how many sales we can expect a book to be achieving, depending on its overall sales rank. Of course, these numbers are likely to be rather arbitrary, but they’re interesting nonetheless. Note, these numbers do not apply to product categories other than books. It’s also important to mention again that it’s the sales that cause the ranking. The ranking doesn’t cause the sales.

The best-selling game on Amazon for 2017 was Super Mario Odyssey, the first major Mario game for Switch and GameSpot’s No. 3 pick for Game of the Year. It was followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, while Splatoon 2, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild rounded out the top 10.
So every time a customer checks out a product, they have a section directly underneath the product description showing related products that make nice complements to the product currently being considered.
Another thing is that even though their seller feedback rating might be stellar, you will see if you read back in their 40/50 feedbacks per day that negative feedback gets buries almost instantly (and funny…most the positive feedback after negative feedback will take a point or two of the negative feedback proceeding it and comment in the positive on those points.
With over 12,000 reviews and a 4.5-star rating, it’s no wonder people keep coming back for more of this bentonite clay mask! Users report that it has helped them with issues like acne, clogged pores, blackheads, and oily skin.
