Once you win the Buy Box a few times, you’ll start running into a problem… Your competitors using the exact same tactics on you that you’re using on them. They’ll undercut you by a small amount to get placed above you in the Buy Box for your products.
Technology is helpful, fun, exciting, life-saving and expensive! If you have unlimited dollars and could buy all the gadgets and gizmos you wanted, there’d be no problem. (Well, maybe not.) Alas, we’re all limited, and we have to choose which tech toy is coming home from the store with us. Or which one will arrive at our door after shopping from our dining room. With this in mind, let’s take a look at what we should understand by this ranking. As mentioned above, this Bestsellers Rank is available for most products available on Amazon, but I’ll explain this topic mainly using books as a case in point.
Amazon has their own “bestseller” rankings for books, based upon categories. If you’re in the Top 100 in your Amazon category, you will see a “bestseller ranking” below the title. A book at the spot in any given category will get a “#1 Best Seller” banner featured next to the title. This lets potential customers know the book is the top-selling item in that category. If a book holds the top spot in a category for months, that’s saying something. Hitting it for an hour (which is how often Amazon refreshes its rankings), screen-shotting it, and calling yourself a “bestselling author” for life? Well…
