Sadly Amazon is not available in Australia, not for buyers or sellers, only Amazon books….even though Australia is one of the highest online purchasing population there is, but I guess Ebay isn’t complaining.
There was silver-edged news elsewhere for Google. Buoyed by plenty of offers, incentives and discounts ahead of the main Christmas shopping period it’s perhaps not surprising to learn that the Chromecast remained a big xmas seller, albeit placing second to Amazon’s $39 ‘Fire TV Stick’.
The retailer never announces the actual number of its own device sales, but at least one estimate released in the beginning of the year from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) suggested that more than 8 million U.S. consumers may now own an Amazon Echo device, to give you an idea of the market’s size.
Amazon’s own Fire TV Stick is currently the best-selling item in that category. In fact, Amazon’s own devices — from its tablets to Echo speakers — consistently account for eight of the 10 best-selling electronics devices.

(Publisher: Nintendo) — How popular is this long-awaited open-world “Zelda” game? So popular that it outsold the console it runs on. Worldwide, the game sold 2.76 million copies of the Nintendo Switch version of the game through March 31, according to Nintendo. The Switch, in that same time period, sold 2.74 million units. Whatever the reason, the has certainly earned the success. It’s one of the most highly rated games of all time by critics. And it’s so loaded with surprises and solid gameplay that it’s easy to get lost in Hyrule, the game’s mythical world, for 100 hours or more.
Keep in mind, this isn’t 100% proven to work, but everything we know about Amazon’s ranking algorithm tells us it should. Plus, the absolute worst-case scenario is that you’re driving extra sales to one of your products… Amazon isn’t like Google where they’ll punish you for trying to optimize for their search engine.
Amazon keeps a running tab of the best-selling items on its website. It’s a pretty comprehensive list with everything from video games to books to clothing. For example, the best-selling toys right now are rocket copters that you can fling into the air and the best-selling book is Hillbilly Elegy. The list gets updated each hour, so the items change frequently. But one list that rarely changes is the top-selling devices in the electronics section.
Amazon’s not interested in its products gaining a spot at the top of the best-seller list because it makes tons of money from them. The company typically sells its devices at-cost, or even at a loss. The bigger picture is that Amazon uses its products as a catalyst for selling more items on its website, and for hooking users into its ecosystem.
“While the algorithm deciding your Sales Rank doesn’t seem to place any weight on copies that were downloaded while your book was free, it appears that the algorithm feeding into the Popularity List does. ”

(Publisher: Take-Two Interactive Software) — It is nothing less than astonishing that a nearly four-year-old game, first released before the current generation of consoles came out, is still one of the top-selling titles in the industry — even if that game is “Grand Theft Auto.” It’s the gift that keeps on giving for Take-Two, with life-to-date sales of more than 80 million units. The game not only has a compelling single-player element, but developer Rockstar is regularly adding multiplayer components to keep players engaged.
It used to be a real mark of distinction to hit the best-seller lists–because there were fewer lists and fewer authors (and before ebooks, pricing across books was pretty universal as well). The New York Times list has been the most prestigious, published in one form or another since 1931. By 1942, a national list made its debut, compiled according to “reports from leading booksellers in 22 cities.” By the mid-2000s, over 4,000 bookstores were polled each week to determine who deserved to be on the list. The Wall Street Journal list, which has been around since 2009, is based on Nielsen Bookscan and tends to focus on a smaller number of categories. The USA Today list is also a prestigious but more of a catch-all list.

Also known as ‘sales rank’, Amazon ranks products on an hourly basis according to how much time has elapsed since one was last sold. So if an item has just been sold, it’ll have a pretty high ranking, as opposed to something that’s been languishing for that whole hour.
If we dissect this URL, it’s easy to see that the &field-keywords= string is what Amazon uses to ID which search results to show. The /s/?url=search-alias is how Amazon tells itself to query a search results page, automatically sorted by best-sellers.
(Publisher: Take-Two Interactive Software) — The sports world used to be the sole domain of Electronic Arts, but the 1999 launch of the first “NBA 2K” changed the game. Today, the franchise is one of Take-Two’s most profitable — and has a fan base that buys each new installment regularly throughout the year. In recent months, Take-Two and the NBA have partnered on an esports league that will continue to bolster the public profile of “NBA 2K.”

It’s easy enough to guess why the Chromecast is popular. First, it’s cheap—$35 for a gadget with functionality similar to other streaming devices in the $50 to $100 range. Second, when it debuted, Chromecast immediately sold out—at the Google Play store, at Amazon, and at other retailers. Whether that was by design or due to inept supply chain management isn’t clear, but one consequence was that Chromecast took on the allure of a hot, in-demand item.
The story is told through the eyes of Offred, one of the unfortunate Handmaids under the new social order. In condensed but eloquent prose, by turns cool-eyed, tender, despairing, passionate, and wry, she reveals to us the dark corners behind the establishment’s calm facade, as certain tendencies now in existence are carried to their logical conclusions.
According to author Melissa Walker, whose new book Unbreak My Heart — out since May 22 — is her sixth young adult novel, Amazon Ranking Obsession (A.R.O) lessens with time. “With my first book, I checked Amazon NONSTOP,” she admits. “Every other author kept telling me the ranking didn’t matter, but it was the only number I had access to, so it had the power to make my heart soar (or drop). Now, I’ll admit that I still check it, but only once or twice a month (really!).” Still, it’s hard to resist even a mysterious number, if it’s right there in print.
(NOTE – While lowering the price is certainly a good strategy to rank higher, it is not always a good long-term business strategy. You do NOT want to compete on price alone, as this will only start a price war/race to the bottom)
Electric toothbrushes are one thing all of us have likely considered getting or have somewhere floating around on our wish list. Oral-B Pro rarely discounts products as heavily as they did on Prime Day, but it’s still at over $100 off right now.
