Here’s what happened in the book industry over the last few years: As Amazon has become the big dog in the book world, the “Amazon Bestseller” status has come to be synonymous with being an actual bestseller. This is not true, and I can prove it.
(Publisher: Sony) — Baseball games don’t have quite the appeal among gamers as football and soccer titles. In fact, Sony is the only company making them these days. (Electronic Arts shuttered its “MVP Baseball” in 2005.) But the sales dominance of the PlayStation 4 has helped push “MLB 17” onto this year’s list. It will certainly drop off before the end of the year, but its strong performance in the first half of the year is still notable.
With CES 2015 now nearby, expected to play host to a swathe of new Chromebooks, including a 15.6-inch Acer model, a Rockchip-based device from Lenovo priced at $170, and new ASUS models powered by Intel Broadwell CPUs, chances are that the successes gained this month are only going to continue into 2015.
We may live in a mobile-obsessed world, but it turns out the best-selling consumer-electronics gadget on Amazon isn’t made by Apple or Samsung. Neither is it a Kindle—which is kind of shocking, given that Amazon promotes its own tablets and e-readers right on its own home page.

Yes, as a Chromebook lover, performance, speed and lag free experience is very important for me. And Haswell based Intel 2995u has given me the best experience so far. Battery life is 8 hours and it is not very noisy either.
If you are interested in the product volume for just a few sellers you can click the links to their seller information pages on Amazon. The product widget there includes a page count which can be used to calculate how many products they have listed.
On the flip side, Prime Day is one of the best sources we have to determine how on the mark we are by what we feature. Thanks to years of deal-hunting and paying attention to readers, we’ve gotten pretty good at anticipating interests, trends, and needs, but — as Prime Day reminds us with things like a SanDisk memory card and car mount cracking the top 10 best-selling items — we cannot always be 100% right in our assumptions.
There are plenty of other bestseller lists and rankings which you can base your book buying decision on, but Amazon’s Bestsellers Rank is by far one of the most cited. As mentioned at the start of the article, though, it’s difficult to pin the Amazon Bestsellers Rank down too firmly, but the above is what I’ve dissected from plenty of research online. People will disagree to an extent with some of the above, but the importance you place on this ranking algorithm is up to you. I don’t know how (or even if at all) this ranking impacts buyer decision, but I hope you’ve found this interesting.
Feedback isn’t a direct measure of success, of course, but it is an indicator of sales volume. Amazon says that most sellers receive feedback on 10% – 20% of their sales, so the number of units sold is likely to be 5x to 10x more than the feedback shown below. This does vary very widely, however, with feedback percentages between 2.5% and 18% claimed by sellers in the comments below.
After the US, Italy has gained the most sellers in the top 1,000, adding 14 to the list. The UK has lost the most sellers, followed by Germany with 86 on the list this year compared to 108 last year. Sellers whose primary marketplace is Amazon Mexico are yet to make a showing.
With all the talk about Buy Boxes, you may think that’s the first thing sellers take notice of when deciding on a purchase. But as RepricerExpress is here to show you, there’s another heavily-weighted factor: the Best Sellers Rank.
