The only agreed upon fact was that Amazon’s algorithm was a big fat secret. And, according to their information page, the ratings are actually updated hourly across the board, though the exact moment of update might depend on time zone. To get some perspective, I searched The Hunger Games in paperback and found that it was No. 7. Since my father-in-law kept making jokes about me passing Charles Dickens, I looked up Great Expectations in paperback too: No. 982. Just narrowly beaten out by the dildos.
(NOTE – While lowering the price is certainly a good strategy to rank higher, it is not always a good long-term business strategy. You do NOT want to compete on price alone, as this will only start a price war/race to the bottom)
My company is fairly well ranked on this list and our units sold in a 12 month time are more than 40 times the number of feedback comments received. That means we only get feedback on about 2.5% of transactions…and we actively request feedback from every customer.
“If you are in the market for a little tablet and have prime, you have to decide between this Fire 6 or the 7 inch HDX for twice the cost. This 6 inch adds the rear camera and most of the performance while being smaller, lighter at half the price.” – William Hardin, Amazon reviewer
“The modem (as are all modems) was extremely easy to install. Plug in, call ISP and you are good. The speeds are fantastically fast and this modem was well worth the price.” – SmurfsRiot, Amazon reviewer

Obviously, the year is not quite over just yet. So, unless a sudden monster comeback is mounted by Breath of the Wild, Call of Duty or Valkyria Revolution, it’s looking pretty snug that Mario will be spending Christmas celebrating his incredible success, alongside Peach, Yoshi and John Leguizamo.
Russian President Vladimir Putin bathes in an ice-cold water on Epiphany near St. Nilus Stolobensky Monastery on Lake Seliger in Svetlitsa village, Russia. Thousands of Russian Orthodox Church followers will plunge into icy rivers and ponds across the country to mark Epiphany, cleansing themselves with water deemed holy for the day.
“The scale is very accurate. I stepped on and off multiple times, and always got the same number. Then I put on a light jacket, stepped on again, and it was up .6 pounds. Perfect!” – Elizabeth, Amazon reviewer
Chromebooks are super cheap laptops that are based entirely on the Chrome browser. You need an Internet connection for the laptops to do anything. But, for the most part, people are Internet-connected when they’re using a laptop, so it’s not a huge limitation.
But it’s begun to feel a bit like a losing battle. Because those authors are everywhere these days. The title of my fake book was “Putting My Foot Down” for a reason: I’ve become utterly exhausted with phony “authors” and the scam artists and charlatans who conspire with these folks–the cottage industry that has built up around them, selling courses, instructions and hacks. A quick Google search returns dozens of “bestselling books,” courses, packages, schools, secrets, summits, and webinars teaching you how to become a “bestselling author”. Hell, this guy even promises to show you how to be a bestselling author “Even if You Have No Book Ideas, Writing Skills, or Any Clue Where To Start” a “5 Phase Formula.”

Free Downloaded ebooks do NOT count equally as a paid sale. They may have a loooong time ago when the Kindle Slect program first started but for at least the last year or longer even a free giveaway downloaded only counts for about one tenth of a paid sale in overall/sub-category rankings.
What this also means is that a book that’s ranked 800,000 can see it’s rankings skyrocket to 200,000 just with a couple of sales. As you move up the ladder, however, Amazon’s complex algorithm kicks in soon thereafter making it harder for you to break through the 100,000 milestone, and even harder to get past 10,000. This is because these higher rated products have historical data to back them up, so a lull in sales for them won’t result in as dramatic a drop in rankings as it would for a new product with less data to draw on. In all, the ranking seems to be somewhat logarithmic.
With that said; I’ve would have to give ballpark of around 5-7% for seller feedback (even worse conversions for product reviews) averaging the highs and lows of niches, marketplaces, product quality, etc. etc… high end is about 20-23%.
Well I got me a second hand acer C710 with 320gb HDD and treated myself to a light blue iPearl cover. Glad crippled windows low spec machine tanking…guess people in the market for them, remember Windows on Netbooks and have said no thanks and got Chromebooks instead. I sure did.
There was silver-edged news elsewhere for Google. Buoyed by plenty of offers, incentives and discounts ahead of the main Christmas shopping period it’s perhaps not surprising to learn that the Chromecast remained a big xmas seller, albeit placing second to Amazon’s $39 ‘Fire TV Stick’.
