If you check average Google monthly searches for any top 10 author on Amazon, you’ll find out there are hundreds of thousands searches for their name and for names of their books every month. But when I check my name, only 70 people a month look for it – that’s just not enough to crack the list with the University of solitude.

The part I’d like to draw your attention to is the Coupons link, highlighted in the blue box above. Amazon uses multiple selling accounts of its own, such as Warehouse Deals, Digital Services, Quidsi, The Book Depository, Cloudtail (a joint venture) and Amazon Media. Selling accounts that could be identified as belonging to Amazon have been excluded.

(NOTE – While lowering the price is certainly a good strategy to rank higher, it is not always a good long-term business strategy. You do NOT want to compete on price alone, as this will only start a price war/race to the bottom)

Promote your VPCs on third-party deals sites. This is a really sweet hack that can get you decent levels of traffic with very little effort. Simply search Google for “submit a deal” and you’ll get a list of 500,000+ websites that all want to showcase your deals. Submit your coupons to 10 of these sites per day (not all of them will take online coupons) and if your deal is eye-catching enough, you should start seeing some steady traffic flowing in.

As to which products moved the needle, Amazon’s Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote were the best selling products across every category, an impressive feat to say the least. Predictably, Amazon didn’t release any specific sales figures, only noting that Echo Dot sales ranged in the millions. It’s also worth noting that Fire TV Stick sales increased by more than 100% year over year.

Another problem with some of the brands is that they don’t have much reach outside Amazon. These brands depending on Amazon search optimisation and Amazon ads are going to add essence to this problem as they would way to out-rank them. As soon as the marketplace banned incentivized reviews, it became tougher for the brands to bootstrap without putting considerable efforts into it. But, this would promise us to create better, as well as stronger brands in the near future.

All the research reports say that Electronics along with Cell Phones and Accessories are the most famous product categories on Amazon, although there are some exceptions like Cards Against Humanity LLC (Toys), Positively Tea LLC and Healthworks (Groceries), and NatureWise (Health and Household).
