With that said.. there’s a few tactics that’d definitely up that ~2.5 mark. I’d be open to any questions, suggestions, etc. if increasing feedback of any interest to you. (without any annoying pressure sale of an app!)

I’m getting this section (free vs paid) of the aricle changed, so this is made clearer- as mentioned in a previous comment, it seems the weightings are the same, but the lists are different…. Thanks for the heads up. I took a look at all of this in more detail and reaslised I needed to clarify this in the text., so hopefully those edits will be online soon!
I was wondering if there was any archive that you knew about wherein Amazon sales rank records are publicly stored. It would be quite the handy resource to look up how long a book stayed at certain ranks in order to make general inferences about sales, but my google-fu came up weak.

My free rank was #1 but my paid rank is #280,230. Please tell me why such a difference has happened. Secondly I want to know how did you determine the figures of sales and amazon rank. Your advice will be really grateful.
Once you win the Buy Box a few times, you’ll start running into a problem… Your competitors using the exact same tactics on you that you’re using on them. They’ll undercut you by a small amount to get placed above you in the Buy Box for your products.

I’m getting that section of the article clarified now, so it’s clearer that free and paid have separate besterller ranks, however the rankings seem to be calculated in the same way (or very similar).
Feedback isn’t a direct measure of success, of course, but it is an indicator of sales volume. Amazon says that most sellers receive feedback on 10% – 20% of their sales, so the number of units sold is likely to be 5x to 10x more than the feedback shown below. This does vary very widely, however, with feedback percentages between 2.5% and 18% claimed by sellers in the comments below.
What this also means is that a book that’s ranked 800,000 can see it’s rankings skyrocket to 200,000 just with a couple of sales. As you move up the ladder, however, Amazon’s complex algorithm kicks in soon thereafter making it harder for you to break through the 100,000 milestone, and even harder to get past 10,000. This is because these higher rated products have historical data to back them up, so a lull in sales for them won’t result in as dramatic a drop in rankings as it would for a new product with less data to draw on. In all, the ranking seems to be somewhat logarithmic.

Oh, one more thing. Sometimes I buy books…I never buy books from the above as they are allowed to defy Amazon’s two day to ship product rule and wait until they have a couple thousand orders to send by bulk mail (sometimes takes a week). They also send product under media mail sometimes which is not media, thereby ripping off the post office and they have the audacity to send as printed bound material (meant for looseleaf bound, velostrip bound printed material, etc).

Easy – invest in a tool that automatically reprices your products so that you always stay on top of the Buy Box. This is almost a requirement when you have lots of products for sale; there’s just no way to stay on top of pricing for all of them.

Sales ranking do influence people to click on a product just as positive reviews do also. If a book has a 1million rank savvy shoppers know its bombing and not very popular. Its like anything else in life…hype…hype…hype. use it to your advantage.
Well I got me a second hand acer C710 with 320gb HDD and treated myself to a light blue iPearl cover. Glad crippled windows low spec machine tanking…guess people in the market for them, remember Windows on Netbooks and have said no thanks and got Chromebooks instead. I sure did.
As to which products moved the needle, Amazon’s Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote were the best selling products across every category, an impressive feat to say the least. Predictably, Amazon didn’t release any specific sales figures, only noting that Echo Dot sales ranged in the millions. It’s also worth noting that Fire TV Stick sales increased by more than 100% year over year.
